PSAT Information

Dear Parents/Guardian,

ATTN SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: On Wednesday, Oct. 16, all BOHS sophomores will be taking the PSAT, a test that gauges college and career readiness. The following are some tips and suggestions to help your child get the most out of the PSAT:

·  Benefits of taking the PSAT

·  The PSAT measures math, reading, writing & language skills. It shows areas where a student is doing well in or can improve on, to get ready for the SAT and college applications.

·  Scores will be available mid-December

·  To prepare for the test utilize the “PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide.”

  • The Student Guide provides sample questions and information on how to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT.
  • Your student will benefit from reviewing the Student Guide with parents/guardians. https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-nmsqt-student-guide.pdf
  • PSAT offers free personalized practice in the areas where students need improvement through Khan Academy.
    • Go to satpractice.org to create a free Khan Academy account. Students can then link their Khan Academy account to their College Board account to get recommendations for practice.
    • Here are the steps your student should follow to link their accounts:

’        Create a Khan Academy account by going to satpractice.org

’        When prompted, agree to link your Khan Academy and College Board accounts. You will then be directed to collegeboard.org

’        Sign in to your College Board account

’        When prompted, hit “Send” to authorize the account linking

’        Start practicing on Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy

There is no cost for sophomores to take the PSAT and it takes approximately four hours to complete. Please email the counselor to confirm you will be there.
